SALBUTAMOL

 

Salbutamol 

    NAME:- Salbutamol

    IUPAC NAME:- 

    (RS)-4-[2-(tert-Butylamino)-1-hydroxyethyl]-2-(hydroxymethyl)phenol

    USES:-

    1) Its used to treat Asthma
    2) Its used to treat COPD ( Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
    3) It relaxes the muscles of airways of lungs that make it easy
        to  breathe.

    MECHANISM OF ACTION:

    The Salbutamol acts on Beta2 adrenergic receptor which are present in 
    Bronchial smooth muscles and relaxes it.

    ADVERSE DRUG REACTION:-

    1) Muscle pain and muscle cramps.
    2) Dizziness
    3) Shivering
    4) Headache
    5) Abnormal heartbeat-Very fast or very slow.
    6) Chest Pain

    SYNTHESIS:-

    Salbutamol synthesis

    1) In start  P-hydroxybenzaldehyde and paraformaldehyde both react and form Stage-I compound.

    2) Stage-I compound is reacted with water to give compound-II

    3) Two hydroxyl under H2SO4 catalyst is protected by propylidine.
    4)Compound (4) is obtained under ylide reagent and phase transfer catalyst effect.
    5) Compound (4) undergoes reflux in tert-butyl amine to carry out aminolysis ring
     opening reaction and to get compound (5).
    6) Hydrolysis of compound (5) in acidic conditions gives Salbutamol.
